How strength training is beneficial for diabetic and hypothyroid patients.
Strength training is basically the muscle building exercises we do like pushups , weight training , resistance bands or dumbells.
How ST is beneficial for diabetic patients.
1.ST is said to decrease insulin resistance. Thus there is more efficient utilization of glucose in blood, having the less need for pancreas to produce insulin.
2. The muscle mass Build up in the body helps in increasing the basal metabolic rate or resting metabolic rate leading to increased utilization of blood sugar.
3. As insulin resistance reduces there is less build up of insulin in body which is basically a hormone responsible for fat storage.
4. Hence the less insulin coupled with increased resting metabolic rate leads to weight loss / fat loss, better energy levels and better blood sugar control.
In hypothyroid patients.
For people with hypothyroidism, the metabolic rate is reduced as thyroid is a hormone responsible for inducing metabolism. Also there is general muscle mass reduction leading to loss of strength, lethargy ,weakness, fat deposition due to less Metabolism, sleepiness, less tolerance to cold climate .
This can be easily combated by resistance training by-
1. Muscle build up increases metabolic rate
2. lethargy is reduced
7. fat deposition is reduced leading to fitter looking physique.
3. Some studies have shown that the thyroid hormones have been better regulated after strength training .
Thus, introducing Strength /resistance training is a mandate with aerobic exercises such as walking, running for diabetics and people with hypothyroidism.
